A JOHANNEBURG INSTITUTION - EVERY SATURDAY, RAIN OR SHINE
Never been exploring in the new and revived Braam? Then Neighbourgoods market is the perfect point of departure to induct you into the effortlessly cool vibe and alive-with-possibility streets that make up the area. Started in 2006 in collaboration with Play Braamfontein (the company that has been at the forefront of gentrifying the once derelict part of Jozi), Neighbourgoods has become the consummate Braam hangout for those in the know. Located in a former office block, the food, clothing and jewellery market is open every Saturday, attracting hundreds of Braam locals, international tourists and visitors from around Jozi to try out cuisine from various food and browse the fashion stalls for unique finds. The Neighbourgoods vibe is infectious: a harmonious meeting between the hum of excited chitchat, and the laid-back tunes streaming through the airwaves. Sit at long, shared tables indoors amongst the many smells and sights, or try your luck for an outdoor spot upstairs (but be warned – both areas get packed, so arrive early if standing and walking around isn’t your thing).
