One of the world’s most important collections of southern African art

Located just three blocks from Nelson Mandela Bridge, the Wits Art Museum (WAM) is home to an extraordinary collection of African art, including contemporary and historical art from South Africa as well as art from West and Central Africa. It also hosts a dynamic programme of events and art exhibitions throughout the year. Along with the Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill, the Wits Art Museum is one of Johannesburg’s premier tourist attractions, forming an integral part of the Wits University Cultural Precinct. WAM is located in the heart of hip, regenerating Braamfontein, which is home to thousands of students, and loads interesting shops and places to eat. The WAM Café, overlooking bustling Bertha Street, is a great place to meet friends and enjoy delicious food and coffee.
