Joburg’s definitive jazz destination

The Orbit finds its roots and spirit in a small jazz social club, established in the eastern Johannesburg suburb of Troyeville in the early 2000s by Aymeric Péguillan and three other partners. Peg’s Cosy Corner, as the venue was called, offered an intimate environment, where musicians and jazz aficionados would hang out to listen to occasional live music and recordings till late at night while having a drink or two.

Twelve years later, the venue was reborn in Braamfontein, South Africa’s ‘capital of cool’. Péguillan and his two partners, Dan Sermand and Kevin Naidoo, have developed a sophisticated-yet-relaxed concept – now complete with an imaginative bistro menu and well-stocked bar – that leads the way in offering the best-possible creative expression platform for jazz musicians in Johannesburg. The Orbit offers a non-stop, year-round programme of local and international music and entertainment, attracting crowds from far and wide.
